Vintage Armor Jebat Water Based Pomade review

Continuing down the path of Vintage Armor products, we now have their unorthodox water-based pomade to look at; Jebat Water Based Pomade (kindly sent by Ikhwan from Vintage Armor). Unlike Kasturi, what we recently reviewed, Jebat has actually been part of the Vintage Armor catalogue for quite some time. The product however, has been reformulated and improved and without further hesitation, we'll get right into it.

Packaging

Jebat comes in a 3.8 oz (110 g) clear glass jar with a silver aluminium lid. Although the jar is physically the same as majority of the other Vintage Armor products (such as Lekiu, Lekir etc.), I do find the weight choice to be a little peculiar seeing how the rest come in 3.5 oz (100 g). The label designs have been given a facelift and now come in brown labels with a stunningly gorgeous silver foil color for the product name. There's even a clear sticker of the Vintage Armor logo on the lid and all the text and information is very clearly presented without being illegible. The new design not only looks great, but also consistent with the other Vintage Armor products and that tickles my fancy.

Scent

The pomade has a floral blossom scent, and that is a pretty accurate description of how it smells. It has a very sweet and floral scent and while it is pleasant, I'm not a fan of my hair smelling like it. The scent is a bit too feminine for my taste. However the smell is relatively subtle and will hardly be noticed by others without being in very close range.

Application

When scooping out the product, you're met with an absolutely creamy and smooth consistency. It goes without saying that there's barely any effort needed. Breaking it down reveals some slight tack and thickness, and it applies into the hair without ease. There's hardly any tugging or pulling, and I highly do recommend you apply the product in dry hair to maximise the hold you'd get later on.

Slickness

Just like many other heavier holding UWB pomade, you get that similar dry-slickness while combing the product through. Slick enough to be combed, but too dry to control the more stubborn hairs and strays.

Control

I find that styling with the pomade can be pretty effortless and intuitive. It's easy to attain height and shape and my hair goes where I want it to for the most part.

Strength

Although described to be a heavy, I don't feel like it's too heavy at all. While you still get sufficient hold from the product, I would describe it as more of a firm or maybe even a medium at times. Nonetheless, the hold will still be enough to keep your hair in place all day long.

Shine

Provides a nice, natural shine. Not fully matte, but not too shiny either.

Durability

Even though it's not as heavy as I thought it would be, the product still does an excellent job holding up throughout the day. Despite being slightly lightweight and lacking slickness, a lot of that height is easily maintained and can be restyled back into place if needed without hassle. And although I'm not so big on dryer products, it also means that you're not going to feel it running down your face on a hot day. I will say that it doesn't fair against bad weather too well, but it holds up decently in temperate climates.

Washability

Washing out the pomade is very easy, coming out within only one rinse. No shampooing required, and it leaves the hair feeling nice, soft and conditioned.

Price-point

Jebat costs $25.83 SGD ($19.69 USD) including shipping to Singapore. Of course, shipping costs will vary depending on your location, but overall it is a fair price.

Verdict

I've tried quite a range of products from Vintage Armor; their oil based pomade, gel-type water-based, matte paste, clay. Now that I've had a go at their UWB pomade, I do feel that it fills in a spot in their lineup.

Despite not trying the old version of Jebat, I've based my comparisons through other's video reviews and I truly do feel that this is quite an improvement. I think that Jebat has become a more well-balanced product in it's own right. The application is just absolutely effortless, you get a good amount of hold still, it does a decent job lasting through a day and it washes out really easily. The hold may not be the strongest and can even feel like a medium if applied into damp hair and the slickness can definitely be improved as well.

Jebat definitely belongs in the Vintage Armor family. It bears a lot of signature traits from the brewer and performs just as well as it's brethren. Whether you're a fan of Vintage Armor looking to collect them all or just looking for a user-friendly UWB pomade, Jebat might just be the one you're looking for.
