VAMPH Grooming Dr. Vamph's All Natural Hair Dressing review

We've got a brand spanking new product from veteran Malaysian brewers, VAMPH Grooming. They've decided to add a new product to their line; Dr. Vamph's All Natural Hair Dressing. This product is made to be able to not only style your hair, but treat and condition it as well. I've to thank Shen for sending this my way. With that said, let's dig in.

Packaging

Just like other VAMPH Grooming styling products, Dr. Vamph comes in the familiar black and brown box with gold embossed text. While I'm no stranger to it, it still never fails to impress me.

Dr. Vamph itself comes in a 3.5oz amber glass jar with a golden lid. The labels have been printed on a gorgeous gold label with black text on it. The design has this retro medicine look and I dig it. One thing that I've always admired about VAMPH's products is that they spare no detail when it comes to presentation.

Scent

The scent is mandarin, clary sage and lemon. It has a rather sweet and creamy citrus smell to it. I find it highly pleasing and I enjoy it a lot. A scent that's not overbearing, but you will catch whiffs of it every now and then.

Application

The pomade scoops out really creamy and easy. Breaks down just as smooth and goes into the hair the same. Has little to no tugging or pulling. I'd advise you to apply it in dry hair to maximise the amount of hold from the product.

Slickness

As it is a creamy water-based pomade, it combs through effortlessly. Has a decent amount of slickness to keep your hair in check and not lose control of strays.

Control

Styling with this pomade feels a lot like styling with a lighter hold product. Takes some time to style if you're not used to it. It may not give the best height, but it can provide a nice and natural shape.

Strength

Even though advertised as a medium, it definitely feels more like a light or light-medium at best. It's a product that works with your hair's natural tendencies rather than forcing it into place.

Shine

Provides a nice, low to medium shine.

Durability

Seeing how it's not a waxy pomade, it'd be unfair to expect it to put up with the beating sun and tonnes of movement. While it will fall out of place if you're out and about, it remains restylable for you to just comb it back in place.

Washability

Rinsing it gets most of the product, but it leaves a surprisingly clean and somewhat waxy buildup. I was expecting it to leave a soft and conditioning buildup. If you'd like to remove all of the product, one wash with shampoo is all you need.

Price-point

Including shipping, Dr. Vamph will cost you $24.40 SGD ($18.00 USD) if purchased directly from VAMPH. A solid and reasonable price for what it is.

Verdict

VAMPH Grooming has consistently put out great products. The stuff that I've looked at in the past from them have all been great so I had pretty high hopes going into Dr. Vamph.

How I'd describe this pomade is that it's a hair treatment product that has styling capabilities as well. While the hold may not be outstanding, it can still provide you with a fairly modest hairstyle. The conditioning properties are also great and my hair does feel nice and healthy when using this product. The scent absolutely blows it out of the park as well. It's no secret that my main concerns with the pomade are about the hold and the endurance, but I can easily look past it seeing at what the product is catered towards.

Overall, I think that Dr. Vamph is a great addition to the VAMPH Grooming family. They've plenty of heavy hitters in their lineup, so it's nice to see some diversity being included. I personally enjoy using Dr. Vamph on top of buildup as it helps to degrease and condition my hair while having some added hold from said buildup. Is your hair feeling a little ill? Come pay Dr. Vamph a visit. The doctor will see you now...
