It seems that with most holidays, pomade homebrewers never fail to come up with a product to suit the occasion. With Christmas coming around the corner, Lockhart's has their own pomade-duo to offer you this holiday season. Consider this as sort of a two-part review series as today I'll be looking at Lockhart's White Christmas (Lockhart's Black Christmas review coming soon).
Packaging
Lockhart's White Christmas comes in a 4 oz frosted glass jar with a white lid to follow suit. Has a white label running across it with a very minimalist design and it looks spectacular. Really reminiscent of a Shear Revival product.
Scent
Described as a forest snow storm but living in sunny Singapore my entire life and never ever witnessing snow, I can't really confirm the validity of the scent for you. What I can tell you is that it's a pretty clean scent. A very sweet, vanilla candle type of smell and it really is amazing. One of my favourite scents to date.
Application
Scoops out just like any medium hold pomade. Has that really sticky, greasy feel without being overly waxy. Breaks down nice and smooth which goes the same way when applying into your hair. Has very little resistance and barely any tugging or pulling.
Slickness
The White Christmas combs through really smoothly. Goes through like a dream. The stickiness of the pomade really helps to slick down hair well.
Control
The control you get with this product is reasonable. Not the best, but it gets the job done. Hairs remain in place and styling is fairly easy when using the pomade.
Strength
A medium hold for sure, but I feel that it's slightly more on the lighter side of things. I get average height and volume, I can easily get a nice round shape, and it manages to last through the day fairly well.Shine
Definitely between a medium to high shine.Durability
It does a pretty good job of retaining it's shape through the day. I did lose a bit of height and volume, but it's not too bad to where everything just flops over. Everything managed to stay in place where they should be, and that's where it counts.
Washability
As what you'd get with pretty much any oil based pomade; 3-4 showers with shampoo.
Price-point
I bought this a year ago from their online store together with a few other pomades, so I can't tell you how much I specifically paid then. With shipping to Singapore now, it costs $ 49.66 SGD ($34.40 USD). Obviously not cheap, but worth it if you're a Lockhart's collector and fan.Verdict
Let's just cut to the chase. Is Lockhart's White Christmas an outstanding product? Not so much. Why? Because there are just so many other amazing Lockhart's products to choose from. While the scent is great and the packaging has a very elegant feel to it, the overall performance of the product falls short ever so slightly compared to the rest in the line. If you are just only getting into Lockhart's pomades, this isn't the one you're looking for. This is more for the avid collector who already has every other Lockhart's pomade in their closet. Let me reiterate and say that this doesn't mean that Lockhart's White Christmas is a bad pomade. Do NOT get me wrong. All I'm saying is I personally feel that it's not as outstanding as the pomades in their main line. I still think that it's definitely worth being checked out.Click here to buy Lockhart's White Christmas on their online store
